Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held separate telephone conversations with the foreign ministers of Cambodia and Thailand to discuss the escalating border tensions between the two neighboring countries. Both sides briefed China on the situation and conveyed their readiness to reduce tensions and move toward a ceasefire.
Wang Yi expressed China’s deep concern over the clashes, particularly the loss of civilian lives. He emphasized that continued confrontation would harm both countries and weaken regional unity, stressing that an immediate ceasefire and trust-building measures were urgently needed.
China reaffirmed its support for peaceful dialogue and ASEAN-led mediation, maintaining a neutral and balanced approach. A Chinese special envoy has been dispatched to both countries to engage in shuttle diplomacy aimed at facilitating communication and easing tensions.
The Cambodian and Thai foreign ministers appreciated China’s constructive role and welcomed its mediation efforts. Both sides expressed hope that China would continue contributing to regional stability and the restoration of peace.
