China has expressed strong support for efforts by Cambodia and Thailand to restore peace and stability in their border areas and accelerate the resumption of normal exchanges.
The consensus was reached during a tea gathering hosted by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn and Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa in Anning, Yunnan Province.
Cambodia and Thailand agreed to rebuild trust, strengthen contacts, and resume normal exchanges at the earliest possible time. China reaffirmed its backing for the outcomes of the recent Cambodian-Thai leaders’ meeting and the extraordinary session of the General Border Committee, calling for a prompt restoration of peace and a lasting ceasefire along the border.
Beijing also voiced support for ASEAN’s active role in maintaining regional unity and urged both sides to create favourable conditions for border residents who expect stability and normalcy.
China further expressed readiness to play a constructive role, including supporting mutually agreed activities such as demining in designated border areas, to assist Cambodia and Thailand in achieving long-term reconciliation.
