The Dasu Hydropower Project (Dasu HPP) has reached a key milestone with the commencement of excavation on the Shori-1 Tunnel, part of the Dasu KKH-02 Realignment Road Project. Energy China Pakistan confirmed that the first controlled blast was conducted on December 29, 2025, officially marking the start of tunneling work for the 530-meter-long tunnel.
The tunneling is being executed under challenging geological conditions, employing advanced engineering techniques and strict safety protocols to ensure steady progress. Dasu HPP, with a total capacity of 4,320 megawatts, is the largest hydropower initiative in Pakistan, designed to provide sustainable, clean, and affordable electricity to the national grid.
Upon completion, Stage-I will contribute around 12 billion units annually, while Stage-II will add 9 billion units, taking the total to 21 billion units of electricity. The project highlights successful China Pakistan collaboration in energy infrastructure, boosting the country’s green energy potential and supporting long-term electricity security.
