Pakistan successfully conducted its first full-scale Airport Emergency Exercise 2026 at the New Gwadar International Airport (NGIAP), enhancing the port city’s operational readiness and international credibility. The drill, executed by the Pakistan Airports Authority, simulated a major aircraft incident with fire and multiple casualties, testing emergency response systems under realistic conditions.
Firefighting units, rescue teams, medical personnel, and security agencies coordinated seamlessly, even under low-visibility scenarios, demonstrating robust preparedness. A fully equipped triage area enabled medical staff to assess casualties and administer immediate first aid, highlighting the effectiveness of Pakistan’s Airport Emergency Plan.
The exercise reinforces Gwadar’s emerging role as a strategic aviation and trade hub under CPEC, backed by Chinese infrastructure investment. Aviation experts emphasize that such drills are vital not only for passenger safety but also for building global confidence in Gwadar’s capacity to support commercial flights, cargo operations, and regional connectivity initiatives.
