Experts speaking at a regional conference organized by the Pakistan-China Institute emphasized that Pakistan needs credible policies and reliable execution to attract Chinese investment in solar photovoltaic (PV) manufacturing.
The conference highlighted that Pakistan has rapidly adopted solar energy, supplying about 25% of utility electricity, but heavy reliance on imports exceeding $2 billion poses economic challenges. Experts stressed that localizing parts of the solar value chain is critical for energy security and sustainable growth.
Speakers, including Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed and Minister of State for Climate Change Dr. Shezra Mansab Ali Kharal, urged phased industrial strategies starting with module assembly and balance-of-system components, while ensuring predictable policies, investor incentives, and timely infrastructure implementation. International experts shared lessons from ASEAN economies where policy certainty successfully attracted Chinese solar manufacturers.
