China has introduced its first pharmacy robot, Galbot G1, in a Haidian District drugstore in Beijing, marking a major step in applying embodied intelligence in healthcare retail. Developed by Beijing Galbot Co., Ltd., the robot can locate, pick, package, and deliver medicines to a smart pickup cabinet.
Designed for retail pharmacies, the Galbot G1 automates inventory checks, replenishment, picking, and packaging, handling fragile or irregularly shaped items with a 99.5% success rate. The robot can operate 24/7 in a roughly 70-square-meter pharmacy, managing around 5,000 stock-keeping units, while reducing human labor by over half.
Equipped with AI visual recognition and traceability code scanning, the system records medicine lifecycle data, preventing expired or recycled drugs from reaching customers. Licensed pharmacists can now focus more on prescription review and guidance. Local regulators see this pilot program as a model for expanding AI plus healthcare applications and smart pharmacy services in communities.
