China, Iran agree to strengthen relations, implement cooperation plans as Wang Yi shed light on Iran’s efforts to safeguard its national security.
Chinese and Iranian officials reached an agreement on Thursday to enhance their bilateral relationship and push forward various cooperation projects.
Wang Yi, a key member of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and head of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs, met with Ali Ahmadian, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council secretary, during a BRICS meeting in St. Petersburg, Russia.
Wang emphasized China’s support for Iran’s efforts to safeguard its national sovereignty, security, and dignity, while resisting foreign interference and undue pressure. He also highlighted China’s readiness to foster stable and sustainable development in their bilateral relations.
Wang further expressed China’s backing for Iran and other countries in the region to resolve their disputes through dialogue and consultation, aiming to strengthen regional relations.
Ahmadian reiterated Iran’s new government’s eagerness to cooperate with China in implementing the comprehensive Iran-China cooperation plan, boosting collaboration in sectors such as trade, digital technology, and cultural tourism.
He also acknowledged China’s role in successfully mediating the Iran-Saudi dialogue in Beijing, commending China for its responsible global leadership.
During their talks, the two officials discussed the Gaza conflict, emphasizing the need for a lasting ceasefire, full military withdrawal, and the resumption of the two-state solution as soon as possible.
