China’s Commerce Minister Wang Wentao met German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul to advance economic dialogue and strengthen stability in bilateral trade. The two sides reviewed recent developments in China-EU relations and agreed that deeper cooperation is essential to counter rising global uncertainty and protect shared economic interests.
Wang highlighted the importance of translating new openings under China’s upcoming Five-Year Plan into practical collaboration, particularly in traditional industry and emerging technologies. He urged Germany to maintain an open and non-discriminatory environment for Chinese firms and warned that politicizing trade issues risks undermining supply chain security at a critical time for global markets.
Germany acknowledged China’s recent licensing measures, including steps supporting semiconductor-related exports, and noted their positive effect on stabilizing industrial operations. Wadephul said Berlin aims to handle sensitive issues constructively, strengthen communication, and work with China to safeguard free trade and ensure the continued flow of goods essential for global manufacturing and consumer industries.
