At the 2026 World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, China’s business leaders emphasized the country’s pivotal role in the global green and low-carbon transition. Peter Bakker, CEO of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), highlighted China as a stabilizing force in sustainable development, citing its scale in clean technologies, decarbonization, and international cooperation.
In 2025, China’s exports of electric vehicles, photovoltaic products, and lithium-ion batteries reached $187 billion, marking a 3.5-fold increase since 2020. Chinese firms now account for over 80% of global photovoltaic components and 70% of lithium battery production. China’s automobile industry achieved record production and sales, maintaining its 17-year global leadership.
Beyond domestic production, Chinese companies actively engage internationally through platforms like WBCSD’s Two Lakes Dialogue, sharing best practices and linking domestic innovation with global markets. China’s commitment to green development and multilateral climate processes underscores a practical, execution-driven approach that other nations can emulate.
Bakker noted that China’s model integrates economic development with decarbonization, offering scalable solutions for sustainable growth, and helping stabilize the global economy amid rising uncertainty.
