Abbas Araghchi has arrived in Oman to hold high-level talks with Omani officials on the Strait of Hormuz, regional developments, and bilateral relations.
Araghchi, leading a diplomatic delegation, was welcomed in Muscat on Saturday. The visit continues consultations between Tehran and Muscat on maritime cooperation and regional security.
Focus on the Strait of Hormuz
According to Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei, the visit follows weeks of consultations between Iran and Oman regarding the Strait of Hormuz.
Moreover, he said the strategic waterway is a key part of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) reached after the recent conflict. Under the agreement, Iran is responsible for supporting normal operational arrangements and providing maritime services for commercial shipping.
Maritime Cooperation and Regional Security
Iran reaffirmed its commitment to implementing the MoU. In addition, Tehran and Muscat agreed to coordinate closely on maritime operations and the safe passage of vessels through the Strait of Hormuz.
Several technical meetings have already taken place in both Tehran and Muscat. The latest visit aims to advance those discussions and strengthen regional maritime cooperation.
Regional Diplomatic Engagement
The visit follows trilateral talks held in Doha on July 1. The meetings involved Iranian, Qatari, and Pakistani representatives working to implement the Islamabad memorandum.
At the same time, a U.S. delegation led by Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner held separate discussions with senior Qatari officials.
Strengthening Iran-Oman Relations
The latest consultations highlight the close diplomatic coordination between Iran and Oman on regional security and maritime issues.
As a result, both countries are expected to continue working together to ensure stability and the uninterrupted flow of commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
