he Gilgit-Baltistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry is showcasing the region’s trade and business potential at the 16th Xinjiang Kashi-Central and South Asia Commodity Fair.
The expo opened on August 14, 2026, at the Kashi International Convention and Exhibition Center in Kashgar, Xinjiang. Businesses and representatives from China, Central Asia, and South Asia are participating in the event.
Exploring New China-Pakistan Trade Opportunities
The participation gives Gilgit-Baltistan’s business community an opportunity to connect with Chinese companies. It also opens avenues for new commercial partnerships and technology cooperation.
Former Caretaker Gilgit-Baltistan Forests Minister Hafiz Sharafuddin and Maulana Hussain Ahmed are also attending the expo. They are engaging with Chinese counterparts and exploring potential business opportunities.
Focus on China’s Trade Policies
Speaking at the event, Hafiz Sharafuddin described China’s trade policies as beneficial for the wider Asian region. He encouraged Pakistani businesses to make greater use of emerging trade opportunities.
Moreover, he highlighted China’s evolving commercial policies and their potential to support regional economic growth.
Technology Cooperation for Mountainous Areas
Sharafuddin also stressed the importance of modern technologies for Gilgit-Baltistan. He particularly highlighted drone-based rescue systems.
Such technology could improve emergency response in mountainous areas. Difficult terrain often makes rescue operations challenging across the region.

Sharafuddin thanked the local government for supporting the participation of Gilgit-Baltistan’s business community. He said the opportunity allowed local traders to represent the region at an important international platform.
