The Consulate General of China in Karachi organized a seminar to commemorate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China. The event brought together diplomats, academics, business leaders, media representatives, and members of civil society.

Yang Yundong Highlights Enduring Partnership

Speaking at the seminar, Yang Yundong described Pakistan-China relations as a model of strategic trust, peaceful coexistence, and mutually beneficial cooperation. Moreover, he said the friendship has remained strong despite changing international circumstances.

Growing Cooperation Across Multiple Sectors

Yang noted that cooperation in trade, investment, culture, and people-to-people exchanges has continued to expand. In addition, he highlighted exchanges involving parliamentarians, journalists, students, academics, and think tanks that have strengthened mutual understanding.

Public Welfare and Educational Initiatives

The consul general also pointed to several public welfare initiatives undertaken by the Chinese Consulate. These include scholarship programs, solar streetlight projects, and donations of medical supplies. As a result, people-to-people ties between the two countries have grown stronger.

Reflecting on 75 Years of Diplomatic Relations

Reviewing the history of bilateral ties, Yang recalled that Pakistan and China established diplomatic relations 75 years ago. Since then, both countries have developed what they describe as an “all-weather strategic cooperative partnership.” Furthermore, he highlighted milestones such as the 1963 China-Pakistan Boundary Agreement and Pakistan’s support for China’s restoration of its seat at the United Nations.

CPEC Remains a Key Pillar of Cooperation

Yang emphasized that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor has entered a new phase of high-quality development. According to him, the initiative continues to support infrastructure development, industrial growth, and regional connectivity in Pakistan.

Pakistani Officials Reaffirm Strong Ties

Meanwhile, Irfan Soomro said Pakistan was among the first countries to recognize China and has maintained close ties over the past 75 years. He added that recent visits by President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to China demonstrate the continued strength of the bilateral relationship.

Participants Celebrate Historic Milestone

Finally, participants paid tribute to the enduring partnership between Pakistan and China. Consequently, the seminar served as a platform to celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations and explore future avenues for cooperation.
