The China-aided Pak-China Friendship Hospital in Gwadar is emerging as a key healthcare facility in Balochistan. In the first two months of 2026, it treated 48,656 patients, according to a CGTN report.
The hospital, a flagship project under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), currently handles around 1,200 patients daily, significantly improving healthcare access in the region.
CPEC is a major infrastructure and energy initiative connecting Pakistan and China. It includes highways, railways, energy projects, and industrial zones, strengthening trade, connectivity, and regional development.
During a recent visit, Ahsan Iqbal said that the success of CPEC should be measured not only by infrastructure but also by human development, particularly in health and education.
Managed by the Indus Hospital and Health Network, the facility provides diagnostics, treatment, and inpatient care free of cost. Since opening, it has treated over 650,000 patients, reducing the need for residents to travel to other cities for specialized care. Patients from across Balochistan and neighboring regions now seek treatment in Gwadar.
The hospital has also boosted local employment. Over 80% of its 487 staff members are recruited from the surrounding community, contributing to regional development.
Looking ahead, the hospital plans to expand from 15 to 25 departments and establish a School of Medical Technology. Future plans include a medical college and nursing school, ensuring long-term growth and sustainable healthcare services.
