Water and Power Development Authority has spent Rs1.9 billion on socio-economic development projects in the Mohmand Dam area under its Confidence Building Measures program.
The authority launched these projects to improve living standards in nearby communities through better infrastructure, education, healthcare, and public services.
Rs4.5 Billion Allocated for Community Projects
According to WAPDA, the government allocated Rs4.5 billion for 54 development schemes identified in consultation with local representatives and the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
So far, authorities have completed 18 projects during Phase-I. These projects focused on road infrastructure, drinking water supply, education facilities, sports infrastructure, electricity access, and healthcare improvements.
Road and Water Supply Projects Underway
WAPDA said work continues on several important schemes in the region. These include the Abazai-Yousuf Baba Road project and a drinking water supply scheme for Sappare Mulagori.
In addition, officials announced plans to begin construction on five schools in Mohmand, Bajaur, and Malakand districts. The schools aim to improve access to education in underserved areas.
New Schools Planned in Multiple Districts
The upcoming education projects include Government Primary School Shaheed Banda, Government Girls Primary School Shaheed Banda, and Government Primary School Daryab Kor in Tehsil Pindyali.
Authorities will also construct Government Girls Primary School Johar in Bajaur and Government Girls Primary School Ghwand in Malakand.
Mohmand Dam to Support Energy and Water Needs
WAPDA is constructing the Mohmand Dam Project on the Swat River with a storage capacity of 1.29 million acre-feet of water.
Moreover, the project will generate 800 megawatts of low-cost hydropower and provide 300 million gallons of water daily to Peshawar for municipal use.
Officials believe the project will strengthen water security, support clean energy production, and improve socio-economic conditions across the region.
