Islamabad will host the China-South Asia Forum 2026 on Friday, October 30. The event will bring together policymakers, development experts, academics, business leaders and development partners.
Under the theme “Creating Development Opportunities for Shared Prosperity,” the forum aims to strengthen regional dialogue and promote cooperation between China and South Asian countries.
Ahsan Iqbal and Chinese Ambassador Expected to Attend
Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Professor Ahsan Iqbal is expected to attend as the chief guest. Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong is also expected to participate.
The forum will provide a platform for participants to exchange ideas on development strategies. In addition, they will discuss ways to improve policy coordination and expand regional cooperation.
Poverty Reduction and Inclusive Growth on the Agenda
Discussions will focus on poverty reduction, inclusive growth and sustainable development. Participants will also explore practical opportunities for cooperation among regional partners.
Moreover, the forum will examine how China’s experience in poverty reduction could support development efforts across South Asia. Knowledge-sharing between governments, development organisations, universities and businesses will be a key part of these discussions.
The exchange is expected to help participants identify shared challenges and explore approaches that support long-term prosperity.
Organisations Behind the Forum
The event is being jointly organised by three organisations: the CICG Center for Europe and Asia, also known as China Pictorial Publications; Understanding China Forum Pakistan; and the Belt and Road Initiative for Sustainable Development Pakistan.
Through discussions and knowledge-sharing, the forum aims to encourage closer regional partnerships and create opportunities for shared development.
