The Karakoram Highway has reopened to all traffic. A landslide at Lachi Nala in Kohistan had blocked the route.
The highway was closed on Sunday, April 19. The blockage disrupted travel and transport in the region. It also affected a key route under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
Authorities first allowed only small vehicles to pass. This happened while clearance work continued. Heavy transport remained restricted during this phase.
Emergency teams worked through the night. They acted on the directives of Deputy Commissioner Azizullah Jan. Their goal was to remove debris and restore safe movement.
By Monday morning, the road was fully cleared. Traffic resumed for all types of vehicles, including heavy transport.
The Karakoram Highway is a vital link. It connects northern areas of Pakistan with the rest of the country. It also supports cross-border trade with China.
Officials have advised travellers to stay cautious. Landslide-prone areas remain risky due to unstable weather. Drivers should follow traffic instructions at all times.
The quick restoration highlights the importance of the route. It also shows the government’s response to maintaining critical infrastructure.
