China has praised Pakistan for its active diplomatic engagement in efforts to reduce tensions in the Middle East. The appreciation came as Islamabad continued its role in facilitating dialogue between the United States and Iran.
Chinese Consul General Sun Yan made the remarks during an interaction with the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI). He stated that Pakistan’s efforts to promote dialogue were “significant and commendable.” He added that these initiatives support regional stability at a critical time.
China and Pakistan jointly issued the “Five-Point Initiative for Restoring Peace and Stability in the Gulf and the Middle East” on March 31 in Beijing. The initiative calls for an immediate ceasefire, the resumption of peace talks, and the protection of civilians. It also stresses the security of non-military infrastructure and maritime routes.
According to the Chinese envoy, the framework reflects strong strategic trust between both countries. He noted that it also demonstrates a shared commitment to peaceful conflict resolution and international cooperation.
Sun Yan said Pakistan’s mediation efforts between Washington and Tehran have contributed positively to diplomatic progress. He emphasized that such engagement helps reduce risks in an already volatile region.
He also highlighted the importance of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), noting that it has now entered its second phase. This phase focuses on industrial development, agriculture, digital growth, and green energy.
The envoy added that China plans to support research collaboration, technology transfer, and the development of advanced laboratories in Pakistan. He encouraged universities in both countries to expand cooperation in artificial intelligence, nanotechnology, and green technologies.
Sun further stated that stronger links between academia and industry are essential for long-term economic growth under CPEC Phase II. He said this approach would help turn research into practical innovation.
LCCI President Faheemur Rehman Sehgal also spoke at the event. He said CPEC Phase II will prioritize industrial cooperation, special economic zones, and skill development. He stressed that universities must play a stronger role in innovation and research.
The event brought together representatives from academia, industry, and business sectors to discuss ways to strengthen Pakistan-China cooperation under CPEC and expand economic opportunities.
