South Asian experts, including participants from Pakistan, joined the Phewa Dialogue 2026 held in Chengdu, China, to discuss regional development challenges.The dialogue, themed “South Asian Development under Climate Change and Governance,” brought together scholars, policymakers, and practitioners to exchange ideas and strengthen cooperation.
Khalid Taimur Akram, Executive Director of the Pakistan Research Center for a Community with Shared Future, delivered a keynote address highlighting climate change as a major challenge impacting economies, livelihoods, and ecosystems across South Asia.He emphasized the need for regional cooperation through climate-resilient infrastructure, renewable energy collaboration, sustainable agriculture, and enhanced trade integration.
Akram also stressed the importance of policy coordination, knowledge sharing, and disaster management, while highlighting the role of academic institutions, businesses, and youth in promoting sustainable development.The Phewa Dialogue, launched in 2024 in Nepal, aims to enhance collaboration among South Asian countries, with the 2026 edition reflecting growing regional engagement.
