Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif said that safeguarding health is a fundamental civil right and providing equal access to prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and care—particularly for vulnerable groups—remains a top priority of the government. He made these remarks in a message on World AIDS Day, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to eliminating major public health challenges like HIV/AIDS.
The PM highlighted that transforming societal attitudes toward HIV/AIDS is critical. Ensuring access to modern treatment, community cooperation, and ending discriminatory practices are essential to changing public perceptions and improving healthcare outcomes.
He emphasized priority measures such as treatment access for high-risk groups, preventing parent-to-child transmission, ensuring safe blood supplies, reducing infections among drug users, and addressing gender-based inequalities.
Shehbaz Sharif urged national and political commitment, inter-sectoral cooperation, and shared responsibility to overcome barriers, strengthen health systems, and accelerate progress toward an AIDS-free Pakistan. He concluded by calling for unity, compassion, and hope to ensure every citizen enjoys a healthy, prosperous, and dignified life.
