Pakistan and the European Union have agreed to strengthen collaboration on migration management, labour mobility, and legal migration frameworks during the third session of the Pakistan-EU Migration and Mobility Dialogue, held in Islamabad.
The Pakistani delegation was led by Director General (Europe) Irfan Ahmed, while the EU side was headed by Deputy Director General HOME Johannes Luchner.
Both sides reviewed progress made in the preceding meetings of the 16th Joint Readmission Committee and the 3rd Pakistan–EU Talent Partnership Roundtable, which focused on promoting legal migration, skills development, and reintegration mechanisms.
According to the Foreign Office, both parties appreciated the growing cooperation on migration and labour mobility. Pakistan reiterated its commitment to the EU-Pakistan Readmission Agreement (EURA), while the EU acknowledged Pakistan’s efforts in curbing irregular migration and human smuggling.
The two sides also agreed to implement the Pakistan-EU Talent Partnership Roadmap, designed to create mutually beneficial opportunities for skill development and employment across Europe and Pakistan.
The EURA, signed in 2010, outlines the procedures for the return and reintegration of Pakistani nationals without legal stay in EU states. In return, the EU supports vocational training programs in Pakistan to encourage safe and legal migration pathways.
The next session of the Migration and Mobility Dialogue will be held in Brussels, as both sides continue to work toward a balanced, humane, and development-oriented approach to migration.
