President Xi Congratulates Tianjin University 130th Anniversary, sending a message of recognition for the university’s significant contributions to China’s education and scientific development. In his congratulatory letter, Xi highlighted the institution’s pivotal role in nurturing talent and advancing research that aligns with national strategic priorities.
Xi Jinping, also General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, addressed faculty, students, and alumni, describing the anniversary as a new beginning for Tianjin University. He urged the university community to focus on major national strategic needs, strengthen basic research, and achieve groundbreaking technological innovations.
The President also emphasised cultivating high-quality talent to support China’s economic growth, social progress, and modernisation objectives. Xi encouraged efforts to enhance education, foster self-reliance in science and technology, and contribute to China’s long-term development goals.
Founded in 1895 as Peiyang University, Tianjin University became China’s first modern university and adopted its current name in 1951. Recently, the university’s faculty and students expressed their determination to pursue independent innovation and scientific self-reliance, reflecting Tianjin University’s ongoing role in advancing China’s knowledge and technological strength.
