The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) warns Punjab of heavy rain, floods next two days, issuing an alert for widespread thunderstorms and downpours across multiple districts. The warning highlights rising risks of swollen rivers, hill torrents, and flooding in low-lying areas if the weather persists.
According to the National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC), Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Gujrat, Gujranwala, and Lahore divisions are expected to face major rainfall. Meanwhile, Peshawar, Kohat, Bannu, Sargodha, Faisalabad, and Zhob divisions will experience intermittent showers. Continuous rainfall could push water levels higher in upper river catchments, increasing threats of flooding.
To tackle these risks, NDMA has instructed all departments to stay on high alert and take proactive measures. The authority also emphasised that timely intervention is crucial to minimise damage. As heavy rainfall continues, authorities expect a sharp rise in hill torrent flows, which could endanger vulnerable communities.
In its advisory, NDMA urged citizens to avoid crossing flooded roads, bridges, or streams. People living in flood-prone zones are advised to stay connected with official updates through television, mobile alerts, and the NDMA Disaster Alert App, which provides real-time weather warnings.
Current river flows also reflect the growing pressure. Guddu Barrage is experiencing a medium-level flow of 500,000 cusecs. Sukkur Barrage has already reached a high flood level of 571,000 cusecs, while Kotri Barrage remains at medium flow but faces potential flood threats if heavy rain continues.
The NDMA warns Punjab of heavy rain, floods next two days, urging collective preparedness to protect lives and property. Authorities are monitoring developments closely to ensure a swift response to any emergency.
