Sharif’s Visit to Doha
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif backs Qatar, to visit after Israeli airstrikes that struck a residential area in Doha. The attack killed at least six people, including a Qatari security guard. To show solidarity, Sharif has arrived in Doha with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar. The visit highlights Pakistan’s strong commitment to supporting Qatar’s sovereignty.
Message of Solidarity
During a cabinet meeting before his departure, Shehbaz Sharif called the attack a “barbaric act.” He said that words of condemnation were not enough to describe Israel’s actions. Moreover, he assured that Pakistan would continue to stand firmly with Qatar in defending its security and national dignity.
Diplomatic and UN Action
Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar confirmed that Pakistan, Algeria, and Somalia have jointly requested an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council. In addition, Pakistan has urged the UN Human Rights Council, on behalf of the OIC, to hold an urgent debate on Israel’s “brazen attack” on Doha.
Extraordinary Summit in Doha
Islamabad has also welcomed Qatar’s decision to host an Extraordinary Arab-Islamic Summit on September 15. Pakistan offered to co-sponsor and co-convene the gathering together with the OIC Secretariat, reinforcing its diplomatic backing for Qatar.
Qatar’s and Israel’s Positions
Qatari officials denounced the Israeli strike as a “criminal attack” and a direct violation of international law. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, however, admitted full responsibility, describing it as an “independent Israeli operation” targeting Hamas negotiators based in Qatar.
Pakistan’s Call for Global Action
