President Asif Ali Zardari has signed the Pakistan Land Port Authority Bill, 2025, turning it into law. With this step, Pakistan establishes the Pakistan Land Port Authority 2025, a statutory body responsible for managing the movement of goods and passengers at land borders.
The new authority will act as a central hub for inter-agency coordination. It aims to streamline trade, improve border efficiency, and strengthen cross-border connectivity with neighbouring countries. Officials believe this setup will also help Pakistan fulfil its commitments under international agreements and conventions.
By forming this authority, Pakistan joins India and Bangladesh as the only South Asian nations with a dedicated body for land ports. The initiative is expected to advance regional trade integration and modernise border management systems.
Authorities say the move will unlock opportunities for economic growth by making cross-border trade and passenger movement faster, smoother, and more transparent.
