Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production, Haroon Akhtar Khan, has said that Pakistan and China are exploring cooperation in electric vehicles (EVs), lithium batteries, and drone technology to support industrial modernisation and sustainable growth. He made these remarks during a meeting with the Chief Executive Officer of the Chinese firm Huaguan, held to discuss joint ventures and future collaboration in these emerging sectors.
Haroon Akhtar Khan noted that EVs represent the future of transportation, stressing that Pakistan needs to move towards cleaner energy solutions to cut its growing oil import bill and reduce environmental pollution. He explained that lithium batteries hold vast potential for energy storage and will remain at the centre of the global energy transition. By working with China, Pakistan can adopt advanced EV technologies more quickly, creating opportunities for local manufacturing, investment, and job creation.
The CEO of Huaguan highlighted that the company is already manufacturing drones powered by lithium batteries, particularly for use in agriculture. Such drones can help improve crop monitoring, irrigation, and pest control, ultimately boosting agricultural productivity in Pakistan. Haroon Akhtar Khan added that robotics and drones are not only gaining importance in agriculture but are also transforming healthcare, logistics, and everyday life worldwide. In Pakistan, they could play a crucial role in disaster management by supporting rescue and relief operations during floods and earthquakes.
He emphasised that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s upcoming visit to China will further strengthen bilateral ties, paving the way for enhanced business-to-business cooperation. The discussions between Pakistan and China on EVs, batteries, and drone cooperation highlight the shared commitment to innovation, industrial growth, and sustainable development.
