Pakistan and the United Kingdom have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties, as Pakistan and, UK pledge a stronger strategic defence partnership during high-level talks held in Rawalpindi. The development took place in a meeting between Minister for Defence Production Muhammad Raza Hayat Harraj and British High Commissioner Jane Marriott, according to a statement from the Press Information Department (PID).
During the discussion, both sides agreed to enhance collaboration across key sectors, particularly defence, trade, and regional security. Minister Harraj described the UK as a close and trusted partner, noting that frequent engagements have helped align perspectives on regional and global matters.
He expressed optimism that bilateral relations will continue to grow based on mutual respect and a shared vision. High Commissioner Marriott echoed this sentiment, reaffirming the UK’s commitment to working with Pakistan on common priorities, including defence production and economic cooperation.
Since 2011, the two countries have been engaged in the Enhanced Strategic Dialogue (ESD), a platform that has broadened collaboration across trade, development, cultural exchange, education, and security.
The meeting comes amid growing momentum to institutionalise economic ties between the two nations. Notably, the July signing of the Trade Dialogue Mechanism Agreement and the formation of the UK-Pakistan Business Advisory Council further demonstrate how Pakistan and, UK pledge a stronger strategic defence partnership to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
Pakistan’s leadership has consistently highlighted the significance of its enduring relationship with the UK, underpinned by shared history and longstanding diplomatic ties.
