Pakistan’s parliamentary delegation, headed by Pakistan People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, met with representatives of elected member states of the UN Security Council in New York to counter Indian misinformation.
The delegation conveyed Pakistan’s perspective to representatives from Denmark, Greece, Panama, Somalia, Algeria, Guyana, Japan, South Korea, Sierra Leone, and Slovenia.
They reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to exercising restraint, reviving the Indus Waters Treaty, and initiating a comprehensive dialogue with India, especially concerning the unresolved Jammu and Kashmir dispute.
The delegates warned that India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty could trigger severe consequences for Pakistan, including water scarcity, food insecurity, and environmental degradation.
The delegation urged the Security Council members to shift their approach from conflict management to proactive conflict resolution in South Asia.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari rejected India’s unfounded accusations against Pakistan, presenting fact-based counterarguments.
He firmly stated that India’s allegations lacked any credible investigation or verifiable evidence, rendering them baseless and premature.
Bilawal also emphasized that India’s aggressive actions—such as targeting civilians and halting the Indus Waters Treaty—pose a serious threat to regional peace.
He noted that Pakistan’s response remained calm, responsible, and aligned with the principles of the UN Charter.
The UN Security Council’s elected members appreciated Pakistan’s engagement and its commitment to diplomacy and peace.
They stressed the importance of de-escalation, adherence to international law, and peaceful dispute resolution, affirming that state behavior should be guided by the UN Charter, especially in sensitive regions like South Asia.
The representatives also recognized the dangers of further escalation and underlined the necessity of pursuing diplomatic pathways.
