China’s State Council outlines key work priorities for 2025 as Premier Li Qiang presided over the meeting.
China’s State Council held a plenary meeting on Friday to review key speeches by General Secretary Xi Jinping during the “two sessions” and to outline the government’s major tasks for the year.
Premier Li Qiang, who presided over the meeting, highlighted the growing complexity and volatility of challenges facing China. He stressed the need for swift and decisive government action to proactively address problems and achieve concrete results.
Li emphasized the importance of fully implementing the objectives set in this year’s government work report. He called on government departments to create strong mechanisms to drive development and enhance economic progress.
Key initiatives discussed included boosting domestic consumption, establishing a unified national market, advancing the AI Plus initiative, and upgrading the manufacturing sector. Li also underscored the importance of fostering a people-centered approach to urbanization, developing a skilled workforce, and streamlining government services.
To mitigate external economic risks, Li urged efforts to expand high-standard opening-up policies and stabilize foreign trade and investment. He also stressed the need for policies that stimulate market forces, ensuring positive economic momentum.
The premier further called for safeguarding national security and stability while advancing economic development. He emphasized progress in fostering new quality productive forces, strengthening internal economic circulation, accelerating the green transition, and improving public welfare.
