750 Acres Secured for Gwadar Eastbay Phase II

The Gwadar Development Authority (GDA) has acquired 750 acres of land for the construction of Gwadar Eastbay Expressway Phase II. The project will connect New Gwadar International Airport (NGIA) with Gwadar Port.

The land acquisition took effect last week under the Gwadar Master Plan. The government is funding the process through the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) 2026-27.

Rs30.13 Billion Project Under CPEC

The 8th Joint Working Group (JWG) on Gwadar approved the project in 2025. The federal government has also allocated Rs200 million under the PSDP for the project.

The project has an estimated cost of Rs30.13 billion. Chinese grant-in-aid will finance 95% of the cost under CPEC.

Furthermore, China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) will undertake construction work.

13.8-Kilometre Link to Gwadar Port

The second phase will cover 13.8 kilometres. It will feature a six-lane dual carriageway with four paved lanes.

The road will directly connect NGIA with the existing Eastbay Expressway. As a result, the project will improve the movement of cargo between the airport and Gwadar Port.

The plan also includes a toll plaza, drainage systems, lighting, fencing, and security towers.

Boost to Gwadar’s Logistics Network

The new road is expected to improve Gwadar’s logistics capacity. It will also support faster cargo movement and enhance port operations.

Moreover, the project will strengthen Gwadar’s role as a regional logistics and economic hub under CPEC.

Eastbay Expressway Phase I

The first phase of Gwadar Eastbay Expressway became operational on June 3, 2022. The six-lane road stretches for around 19 kilometres.

It provides the main connection between Gwadar Port, its Free Zones, Makran Coastal Highway (N-10), and Motorway-8.

Phase I cost $168 million and supports the movement of import, export, and transit cargo. The route also connects Gwadar with CPEC’s western corridor toward the Khunjerab border.

Strengthening CPEC Connectivity

Overall, Phase II will extend the existing Eastbay network toward New Gwadar International Airport. This will create a more integrated transport link between the airport, port, and wider CPEC routes.

Consequently, the project is expected to improve trade connectivity and support Gwadar’s long-term development as a regional logistics hub.
