The 7th China Xinjiang International Dance Festival is scheduled to begin on July 20 in Urumqi, the capital of northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and will continue until August 5. The announcement was made during a press conference held in Urumqi on Wednesday.
Jointly organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the State Council Information Office, and the regional government of Xinjiang, the festival will host 52 performances by 24 art troupes from both China and abroad. In addition to the main venue in Urumqi, six other cities across Xinjiang, namely Ili, Hotan, Aksu, Karamay, Hami, and Alaer, will serve as branch venues.
Yu Jie, deputy director of Xinjiang’s culture and tourism department, stated that acclaimed art groups from eight countries, including Kazakhstan, Cambodia, the United States, and Italy, will participate. The festival will feature a variety of genres such as dance dramas, ethnic operas, musicals, ballet, and contemporary dance.
First launched in 2008, this festival is China’s premier international arts event dedicated to dance. Over the previous six editions, it has welcomed 138 art groups from over 70 countries and regions, staging more than 200 performances. It has played a vital role in promoting cultural exchange, especially within the Belt and Road Initiative framework.
To enhance the audience experience, organizers will offer special deals and discounts on food, lodging, transportation, tourism, shopping, and entertainment. Mini-performances by participating artists will also be held at key tourist attractions and landmarks across Xinjiang.
This year’s edition holds special significance as it coincides with the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
