Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Tuesday that China-Russia relations have become a model of major-country ties, marked by lasting friendship, strategic coordination, and mutually beneficial cooperation.
Xi made the remarks during talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Beijing, who is visiting China for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit 2025 and commemorations of the 80th anniversary of the victory in World War II.
The Chinese president emphasised that both nations are ready to expand high-level exchanges, support each other’s development, and coordinate closely on issues concerning their core interests. He called for steering cooperation through major projects, building exemplary partnerships, and advancing deeper integration of economic and strategic interests.
Highlighting their joint participation in WWII commemorations, Xi noted that the presence of both leaders reflects their responsibility as victorious nations and permanent members of the UN Security Council, while reaffirming their determination to safeguard the outcomes of WWII and defend historical truth.
Xi also underscored his Global Governance Initiative, which seeks a more just and equitable international order under the UN Charter. He urged closer coordination between China and Russia on global platforms, including the UN, SCO, BRICS, and G20, intending to build a community with a shared future for humanity.
