Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is scheduled to visit Ethiopia, Somalia, Tanzania, and Lesotho from January 7 to 12. This will be his first overseas trip of 2026 and continues a long-standing tradition of Chinese foreign ministers starting the year in Africa.
During the tour, Wang Yi is expected to attend the opening ceremony for the China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges at the African Union Headquarters. The event aims to strengthen cultural and diplomatic ties and enhance collaboration between China and African nations.
The visit will also focus on promoting bilateral cooperation, exploring trade and development opportunities, and expanding people-to-people exchanges. Chinese officials hope the trip will reinforce long-term partnerships and deepen mutual understanding across the region.
