A high-level defence delegation from Azerbaijan, led by Deputy Minister and Director General of Defence Mr. Agil Gurbanov, met with Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force (PAF), at Air Headquarters in Islamabad.
During the meeting, both sides held extensive discussions focused on expanding defence cooperation, with emphasis on training, modernisation, and technical expertise. The Air Chief welcomed the delegation, reaffirming the deep-rooted religious, cultural, and historical ties that form the foundation of Pakistan-Azerbaijan relations. He also briefed the visitors on PAF’s modernisation projects, future warfare strategies, and operational goals.
Air Chief Marshal Sidhu expressed PAF’s readiness to extend capacity-building support to the Azerbaijan Air Force in areas such as operational training, maintenance, and human resource development.
Mr. Gurbanov commended the professionalism of PAF personnel and praised the force’s achievements in aerospace indigenisation and advanced technologies. He conveyed Azerbaijan’s strong interest in enhancing military-to-military cooperation, including joint training programs, bilateral exercises, and knowledge-sharing initiatives. The visiting dignitary highlighted Azerbaijan’s intent to revamp its training system from the academy level, with Pakistan as a trusted partner in guiding this transformation.
He also stressed Azerbaijan’s eagerness to learn from PAF’s extensive experience in Multi-Domain Operations, acknowledging Pakistan’s expertise as a valuable model to strengthen Azerbaijan’s defence capabilities.
The visit reflects the mutual resolve of both nations to deepen strategic defence ties, while reinforcing shared aspirations for regional stability, peace, and security.
