Wang Yi calls for peaceful co-existence between China and U.S. for maintaining stable relations.
China and the United States will continue to coexist on this planet for the long term, making peaceful relations essential, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated on Friday.
Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, emphasized that mutual respect is a fundamental requirement for maintaining stable China-U.S. relations.
Commenting on the U.S. decision to impose additional tariffs on Chinese goods under the pretext of the fentanyl issue, Wang criticized the move, stating that the United States should not respond to goodwill with hostility or impose arbitrary trade restrictions.
He further noted that the fentanyl abuse crisis in the United States is an internal issue that the country must address on its own, rather than shifting responsibility onto China.
Wang cautioned that it is unrealistic for any country to suppress China while expecting to maintain positive relations with it.
He highlighted that China-U.S. economic ties are based on mutual exchanges, emphasizing that cooperation leads to mutual benefits and a win-win outcome. At the same time, he affirmed that China will take necessary countermeasures against any unjustified pressure.
Reaffirming China’s stance on international affairs, Wang stated that the country firmly upholds global justice and strongly opposes power politics and hegemony. He emphasized that China values long-term friendships and is committed to pursuing shared interests with its partners.
