The Suki Kinari (SK) Hydropower Station hosted more than 70 students and faculty members from the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore, Narowal Campus.
The delegation visited the underground powerhouse and damsite as part of an academic exchange. S K Hydro (Private) Limited arranged technical briefings, route planning, and safety training for the visitors.
Students Explore Advanced Engineering Systems
Project technical expert Masab Ali explained the station’s core technologies and design. He also discussed construction methods, operations, and management systems.
The students examined several major features of the project. These included the underground powerhouse, 23.1-kilometre headrace tunnel, surge shaft, and penstock.
Moreover, the delegation reviewed the project’s intelligent operation and maintenance system. The visit helped connect classroom learning with practical engineering experience.
Chinese and Pakistani Teams Highlighted
The visiting students and faculty praised the coordination between Chinese and Pakistani personnel. They also appreciated the technical expertise demonstrated during the project visit.
In addition, the project team briefed the delegation on environmental protection and community welfare initiatives. These efforts support local development and help protect the river basin ecosystem.
CPEC Project Supports Green Energy
The delegation also examined the role of CPEC projects in Pakistan’s clean energy transition. The students noted that hydropower can support the country’s shift toward low-carbon development.
SK Hydropower Station is mainly invested, constructed, and operated by China Energy Overseas Investment Co., Ltd. It is the major shareholder of S K Hydro (Private) Limited.
SK Hydropower Generates 5.35 Billion kWh
The project began commercial operations on September 14, 2024. Since then, it has generated more than 5.35 billion kilowatt-hours of clean electricity.
As a flagship green energy project under CPEC, the station contributes to Pakistan’s energy security and economic development.
Training and Local Cooperation to Continue
The project management said SK Hydro will continue working with local communities. It also plans to expand technical and professional training initiatives.
Furthermore, these efforts aim to strengthen Pakistan’s hydropower sector and create greater opportunities for knowledge sharing.
Overall, the academic visit highlighted the role of SK Hydropower in engineering education, clean energy development, and Pakistan-China cooperation.
