Sindh’s provincial government has launched a major initiative to distribute five million China-made electric scooters free of cost to women across the province. The program, inaugurated in Karachi on International Women’s Day, began with the first 300 Pink Scooties handed over to eligible women, marking a step toward greater independence and economic participation.
Applicants are required to present a permanent driving license along with proof of education or employment to ensure scooters reach those who will benefit most. In addition, the government is offering free driving training programs, enabling women to safely navigate traffic and commute confidently.
Officials highlighted that the initiative advances gender-inclusive transportation, reduces reliance on public transport, and promotes environmentally friendly solutions. The use of China-manufactured scooters also underscores growing technological cooperation between Pakistan and China in sustainable mobility.
