Guinea’s Simandou iron ore mine has dispatched its first 200,000-ton shipment to China, marking the start of its full industrial chain operation from mine to maritime export. The cargo, loaded on the ship Winning Youth, departed the Port of Morebaya and is scheduled to reach Ningbo’s Majishan Port in East China by January 15.
The milestone signifies the integration of the Simandou project into global supply chains and provides Chinese steel companies with a high-quality, reliable iron ore source. Experts say the project will diversify China’s overseas mining assets, reduce supply risks, and lower costs through efficient open-pit mining.
The Simandou deposit, located in southeastern Guinea, contains over 4 billion tons of hematite ore with an average iron content above 65%. Analysts expect this shipment to strengthen China’s steel industry, optimize resource use, and enhance global iron ore market stability.
