Saudi Arabia has introduced same-day processing of visa applications for Pakistani citizens through its embassy in Islamabad to facilitate travel and strengthen business, cultural and people-to-people exchanges.

Saudi Ambassador Dr. Rajeh bin Tami Al-Baqami announced the initiative during a meeting with Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik on Friday.

The meeting also focused on expanding cooperation between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia in the mining, petroleum and energy sectors.

Pakistan and Saudi Arabia Discuss Stronger Economic Ties

Ali Pervaiz Malik welcomed the longstanding strategic partnership between the two countries and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to expanding cooperation across key sectors.

He shared that during his recent visit to Riyadh, he had conveyed to Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman Al Saud the Pakistani leadership’s sentiments of solidarity and affection for the Saudi people.

Both sides discussed opportunities to strengthen bilateral engagement through investment, commercial cooperation and strategic partnerships.

Saudi Companies Offered Oil Storage Opportunities in Pakistan

The petroleum minister informed the Saudi ambassador that Pakistan had approved a tax-neutral bonded policy based on international energy hubs such as Fujairah and Singapore.

Under this framework, Saudi companies can establish commercial oil reserves in Pakistan without local tax liabilities. The arrangement could help diversify maritime transit risks linked to the Strait of Hormuz and Bab Al Mandeb while improving access to Asian markets.

Malik said strategic oil storage facilities in Pakistan would give Saudi Arabia greater flexibility in managing supply routes and reaching regional markets.

Pakistan Plans Major Petroleum Complex in Hub

The minister highlighted plans to develop a major petroleum storage and refining complex at Hub in Balochistan under the guidance of Technip Energies UK.

The proposed facility is expected to accommodate Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs). It aims to strengthen Pakistan’s potential as a regional energy corridor serving Central Asian and Chinese markets.

The project is being developed with the support of the Prime Minister and the Chief of Defence Forces, according to the minister.

Saudi Investment Opportunities in Refinery Upgradation

Malik also highlighted investment opportunities under Pakistan’s ongoing refinery upgradation programme.

The initiative aims to modernise domestic refining infrastructure, improve operational efficiency and support the transition to Euro 5 fuel standards.

He said the programme offers opportunities for Saudi investment and participation in Pakistan’s refining sector.

Pakistan Seeks Expanded Crude Oil and LPG Supplies

The minister appreciated Saudi Arabia’s support during recent disruptions in global energy markets. He particularly thanked Saudi authorities at Yanbu port for prioritising crude oil shipments to Pakistan.

He also discussed coordination with Saudi Aramco to explore increased procurement of crude oil cargoes and dedicated liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) shipments.

These arrangements could help meet Pakistan’s energy requirements, particularly with domestic gas demand expected to rise during the winter season.

Both Countries Reaffirm Strategic Partnership

The two sides highlighted the role of their defence and strategic partnership in supporting regional peace, stability and economic cooperation.

They reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening longstanding relations through greater investment, commercial engagement and mutually beneficial partnerships in the minerals, petroleum and energy sectors.
