President Asif Ali Zardari has urged Serene Air to expand its fleet as part of strengthening Pakistan’s aviation connectivity with China. During his meeting with Serene Air’s Owner and CEO, Dr Yunchun Yang, the President emphasized that increasing aircraft capacity would improve domestic routes and broaden international operations, especially direct connections with Chinese cities.
Dr Yang, who earned his PhD from the University of California and also heads a global semiconductor company with subsidiaries in Sweden and the USA, reaffirmed his commitment to investing further in Serene Air’s Pakistan operations. He highlighted the airline’s collaboration with the Pakistan Air Force on JF-17 avionics, noting how this cooperation demonstrates the company’s growing role in both civil aviation and defense technology.
President Zardari welcomed the fact that Serene Air represents the first Chinese private investment in Pakistan’s aviation sector. He also praised the airline for becoming the first private Pakistani carrier to operate direct flights to Beijing, a move that has already enhanced people-to-people exchanges and business ties between the two countries.
The President expressed optimism that expanding the fleet would not only strengthen Serene Air’s domestic presence but also align with Pakistan’s broader vision of deeper connectivity under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
The meeting was also attended by Senator Saleem Mandviwalla, Pakistan’s Ambassador to China Khalil Hashmi, and Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong. Their participation reflected the shared goal of boosting cooperation in aviation, investment, and connectivity between Pakistan and China.
By urging Serene Air fleet expansion in China, President Zardari underlined Pakistan’s strategy to transform its aviation industry into a stronger bridge for trade, investment, and cultural exchanges with its largest partner in the region.
