President Asif Ali Zardari on Thursday paid tribute to Pakistan’s farming community on World Farmers’ Day and called for concrete steps to promote farmers’ welfare and modern agricultural practices across the country.

The president described farmers as the backbone of Pakistan’s economy, playing a vital role in food self-sufficiency and rural development, while acknowledging their continuous hard work and resilience.
Highlighting key challenges, he pointed to water scarcity, climate change, and rising input costs as major hurdles faced by farmers, stressing the need for policy support to address these issues.
