On the occasion of Pakistan Navy Day, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid glowing tributes to naval officers, soldiers, and personnel for their courage, sacrifices, and professionalism in defending Pakistan’s maritime borders.
President Zardari’s Message
President Zardari expressed gratitude to the men and women of the Pakistan Navy, calling them the nation’s first line of defence at sea. He recalled the Navy’s historic 1965 Operation Somnath, where Pakistan struck deep into enemy waters, disrupting India’s sense of security.
“Operation Somnath became a lasting symbol of audacity and skill, inspiring generations of sailors,” he said, adding that the Navy has since evolved into a modern, multi-dimensional force engaged not only in combat readiness but also in protecting trade routes, international peace missions, and disaster relief.
He paid homage to the martyrs and saluted the ghazis, affirming that their courage strengthens the resolve of the entire nation.
Prime Minister Sharif’s Tribute
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also lauded the Pakistan Navy’s role, describing it as a guardian of maritime borders and interests. He highlighted its decisive attack on Dwarka in 1965, calling it proof of bravery and professional excellence.
He noted that the Navy continues to play a vital role in maintaining the balance of power in the Arabian Sea, while also contributing to Pakistan’s blue economy, port development, maritime community welfare, and international prestige.
“The Navy is not only the protector of our seas but also the architect of our maritime future,” he stated.
Sharif praised the Navy’s humanitarian efforts, disaster response, and participation in joint international exercises, which, he said, enhanced Pakistan’s respect globally.
Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the Navy in defending Pakistan’s sovereignty and securing its maritime future.
