In a strategic move to advance Pakistan’s energy innovation, the Power Planning and Monitoring Company (PPMC) has partnered with PowerChina to establish a Joint Research and Development Centre. The agreement was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in June, PPMC confirmed on Wednesday.
Operating under Pakistan’s Ministry of Energy (Power Division), PPMC functions as the core policy and technical body for national electricity planning, sector analytics, and research coordination. Through this partnership, it aims to leverage international expertise to accelerate local innovation.
PowerChina, a state-owned Chinese infrastructure giant with a robust global footprint in power generation, hydropower, and grid development, will bring decades of engineering excellence to the collaboration.
The R&D Centre will prioritize advancements in renewable energy technologies, smart grid development, infrastructure modernization, energy data systems, and sustainable localization of energy solutions.
“This collaboration integrates PowerChina’s global engineering strengths with PPMC’s domestic insight to drive Pakistan’s clean energy shift and infrastructure resilience,” the company stated.
PPMC expressed optimism about the center’s long-term impact, noting that it marks the beginning of a shared journey toward research-driven transformation in the energy sector.
