Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has ordered an independent three-year third-party audit of customs bonded warehouses across Pakistan.
He issued the directive while chairing a meeting on the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) in Islamabad.
The prime minister stressed that customs bonded warehouses must operate under strict rules. He said authorities should take legal action against officials involved in irregularities or illegal activities.
Physical Stock Verification Ordered
The meeting reviewed the current operations of customs bonded warehouses and Inland Revenue enforcement.
Officials informed the prime minister that authorities will conduct physical stock verification at bonded warehouses across the country.
This measure aims to improve oversight and identify potential discrepancies in warehouse records and inventory.
Stricter Licensing and Security Measures
The meeting also reviewed steps to strengthen the licensing process for customs bonded warehouses.
In addition, authorities are working to improve security arrangements at these facilities.
Shehbaz Sharif directed the relevant authorities to maintain transparency and ensure compliance with customs regulations.
Furthermore, he emphasized that officials must act against any misuse of the bonded warehouse system.
Government Tightens Customs Oversight
The nationwide audit will cover the previous three years and will involve an independent third-party review.
The government expects the process to strengthen accountability and improve customs enforcement.
As a result, the initiative could help prevent irregularities and improve monitoring of goods stored under the bonded warehouse system.
