Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday said the modernization of Pakistan Railways will play a vital role in transforming the country into a regional trade and logistics hub.
He made the remarks while chairing a review meeting on the progress of the Pakistan Railways Transformation Plan. During the meeting, he directed authorities to accelerate infrastructure upgrades and improve the railway network’s efficiency.
Railways Central to Economic Growth
The prime minister said a modern railway system is essential for boosting trade, improving connectivity, and supporting Pakistan’s long-term economic development.
Moreover, he instructed officials to implement the transformation plan without delay to make Pakistan Railways a more efficient and revenue-generating transport system.
Focus on Freight and Passenger Services
Shehbaz Sharif described rail transport as the most cost-effective and efficient mode of transportation for both passengers and freight.
Furthermore, he emphasized that improving railway infrastructure would strengthen cargo movement, reduce logistics costs, and enhance Pakistan’s competitiveness in regional trade.

The prime minister said upgrading Pakistan Railways would improve domestic connectivity while positioning the country as a regional logistics and transit hub.
