Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Communications, Abdul Aleem Khan, reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to enhancing regional connectivity, trade, and transport cooperation while addressing the 12th Meeting of SCO Transport Ministers held in Tianjin, China.
In his address, the minister underscored Pakistan’s achievements in road infrastructure, particularly under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). He highlighted the completion of the strategic north-south transport corridor linking Gwadar and Karachi to Khunjerab Pass, noting that both seaports now meet international standards and hold significant promise for advancing regional trade.
Khan emphasized the importance of broadening trade routes with neighboring Afghanistan and Iran, describing them as crucial for Pakistan’s economic resilience. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong support for China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), calling it a game-changing catalyst for regional integration.
The minister also shared that Pakistan is rapidly embracing smart transport technologies and is actively working to digitalize its transport infrastructure. Highlighting transport’s broader role, Khan stated that it is not merely a means of travel but a vital enabler of shared growth and prosperity. He emphasized that regional development hinges on enhanced connectivity and that Pakistan is committed to building a network of integrated transport systems with SCO member states through mutual trust.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s active engagement with the SCO since gaining full membership in 2017, Khan pledged Pakistan’s full implementation of all decisions adopted under the SCO framework.
