Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated the upgraded Shalimar Express and modern facilities at Karachi Cantt Railway Station, highlighting efforts to modernize Pakistan Railways and improve passenger services. The upgrades include renovated waiting areas, CIP lounges, a state-of-the-art dining hall, and computerized ticketing systems.
The federal government, in partnership with Sindh authorities, plans to modernize all major railway stations nationwide and enhance the Karachi Circular Railway. The Prime Minister emphasized that these improvements will boost travel comfort, operational efficiency, and support economic growth.
Shehbaz Sharif also outlined initiatives to strengthen the railway freight system, including projects for Thar Coal transport, and noted plans to expand rail connectivity toward Central Asia and revive the Islamabad–Tehran–Istanbul route. He assured that coordination with all provincial governments will continue to ensure progress.
Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi briefed the Prime Minister on modernization projects, including the revival of 14 trains, upgrades at Rohri Station, and improvements to railway hospitals and schools. Officials affirmed that these steps aim to transform Pakistan Railways into a modern, reliable, and efficient transport network.
