Pakistan has officially begun its first-ever university-level course on Animal Rights and Law at Kinnaird Law School in 2026. Taught by leading advocate and animal rights activist Altamush Saeed, the program is offered in collaboration with Environmental and Animal Rights Consultants Pakistan, the country’s first specialized animal and environmental law firm.
This undergraduate semester course combines theoretical knowledge with practical application, covering international animal rights laws and examining gaps in Pakistan’s legal framework. Formal examinations will ensure that students are well-prepared to defend animal welfare as a legal principle in the future.
The initiative follows years of advocacy by Altamush Saeed, who established Pakistan’s first Animal Law Committee in 2024. The program aims to instill legal awareness among future lawyers, improve enforcement mechanisms, and transform how animals are treated under Pakistani law.
