In a landmark step toward modernising border management, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has developed an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered application to streamline immigration procedures and combat human trafficking. The pilot launch will take place at Islamabad International Airport under the directives of Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.
During his visit to the FIA Headquarters in Islamabad, Minister Naqvi chaired a high-level meeting attended by senior officials, where he was briefed on the AI-driven system. The application will not only speed up immigration by reducing queues but also strengthen Pakistan’s ability to detect and prevent trafficking attempts.
“The use of artificial intelligence is the need of the hour,” Naqvi said, adding that the initiative would protect citizens while making travel more convenient.
The minister announced the immediate release of funds to upgrade FIA’s IT infrastructure, ordered urgent renovation of the FIA Headquarters, and directed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to hand over newly allotted land for the FIA Academy without delay. He also instructed that recruitment against all vacant posts be initiated immediately to address manpower shortages.
FIA Director General Raja Riffat Mukhtar informed the minister that reforms were progressing swiftly. Amendments to the FIA Act have been completed, the agency has shifted to an e-office system, and all official notices will now be issued with QR codes to ensure transparency.
Pakistan has been tightening measures against human trafficking networks in recent years. In 2023, FIA partnered with the European Union and ICMPD to establish a second-line border control office at Islamabad Airport equipped with advanced forensic and IT tools.
The launch of the AI-based application marks another milestone in the country’s efforts to strengthen border security, enhance institutional capacity, and combat organised human smuggling.
