Pakistan Installs 220kV Transformer at 765kV Mansehra Substation, marking a significant breakthrough in the country’s energy infrastructure. The development is part of Pakistan’s first-ever 765kV and highest-voltage substation project, currently under construction by PowerChina in Mansehra. Officials described the milestone as a turning point in strengthening grid reliability and advancing clean energy transmission.
The newly installed transformer is a 220kV main unit, which represents not just a technical achievement but also the near-completion of civil works at the site. With this step completed, the project now moves into its next phase: the installation of large-scale equipment required for full operation.
According to project representatives, the installation process was carried out with strict attention to safety and accuracy. Remote technical guidance from Chinese engineers was combined with on-ground execution by Pakistani teams, ensuring effective knowledge transfer and skill development. Special care was also taken in equipment preparation, transportation, and site logistics to minimise risks during handling and installation.
Once completed in August 2026, the 765kV Mansehra Substation will stand as the largest and most advanced power facility in Pakistan. Authorities emphasise that it will play a pivotal role in reducing power shortages, stabilising the national grid, and improving electricity access for households and industries alike. Moreover, the project is expected to support the integration of clean and renewable energy into the grid, boosting long-term energy sustainability.
Energy experts note that the substation will serve as a regional hub, enabling efficient transmission of high-voltage electricity and supporting socioeconomic growth in northern Pakistan. The collaboration between Pakistani and Chinese teams also highlights the broader cooperation under ongoing energy development initiatives.
With the installation of its first transformer, Pakistan has moved one step closer to addressing its persistent power challenges while building a stronger, future-ready energy sector.
