Severe monsoon rains and flash floods since July 2025 have devastated northern Pakistan, damaging key infrastructure, blocking transport links, and isolating communities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan.
In response, the Suki Kinari Hydropower Project, a flagship initiative under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), has provided timely flood relief support to affected regions. On July 24, project management dispatched heavy machinery, including an excavator and two dump trucks, to Chillas, about 128 kilometres upstream, to help clear debris and reinforce embankments.
Additional equipment was later deployed near the dam site to assist recovery efforts. On August 19, after the collapse of the Mahandri Bridge on the A5–A6 section, the project once again mobilised machinery to restore traffic and ensure relief supplies could reach disaster-hit communities.
These interventions have been carried out in coordination with local authorities and residents, and have been widely appreciated by affected communities. Beyond its contribution to Pakistan’s clean energy future, the project highlights the strong social responsibility of Chinese enterprises and reflects the broader spirit of China-Pakistan friendship under CPEC.
